Katharina Monka
LOU A00120
14 - 23 February 2020
INVITED BY Lena von Goedeke & Sascha Appelhoff
HilbertRaum is delighted to host Katharina Monka’s first solo show in Berlin. The multimedia artist based in Düsseldorf is known for her intense yet subtle installations. Underneath a unique and highly aesthetic approach to material and volume her consistent research on the relationship and borders between subject and object, body and sculpture, gender and sexuality, space and architecture becomes tangible.
Katharina Monka has recently been awarded with the Working Grant of Stiftung Kunstfonds, Peter Mertes Stipendium of Kunstverein Bonn and Cité des Arts in Paris. Her work has been shown in institutions and galleries, such as Westfälischer Kunstverein Münster, Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and Kunstmuseum Celle.
LOU
A transition of spaces, volumes and bodies, permeable and fragile, but radiating confidently. Inspired by the diaries* of transgender pioneer Lou Sullivan Katharina Monka’s exhibition is a fleeting take on the challenge of a non-binary existence during a time of transformation, balancing the possibilities of bodily shapes and surfaces.
