ÁGUA DA PALAVRA - QUANDO MAIS DENTRO AFLORA
13 - 22 April 2018
PRESENTED by DAVID BENFORADO
"How can words speak again in Brazil?" is the question presented by Brazilian writer Eliane Brum. This crisis, according to Ms. Brum, is also a crisis of the word. "We've been interdicted. Our words and our speech became messages in a bottle. We've been willfully distanced from our recipients. Our words are but repetitions that return to us or to the words themselves, in the best possible scenario. In view of this imprisonment of language, what forces can words prevail upon to be allowed to speak again in Brazil, about Brazil, through Brazil?".
Literature is one of humankind's few shelters. And therein reside some of the ideas informing this exhibition. Visual artists Anna Guilhermina, Fabio Morais, Isabella Beneduci Assad, Lívia Aquino, Karina Machado, Marta Matushita and Ricardo Barcellos are connected by translation processes of contemporary literary works by Brazilian authors. They bring to Berlin the exhibition "Água da palavra - quando mais dentro aflora (Water in the word - flowing deep inside)", curated by Galciani Neves. The artworks induce the viewer to recognize several alternative meanings of what dwells in the domain of the word, creating a new space/time to see, to be and to exercise literature - external to books, materialized in space, available to and with the body.
