At the beginning, planets rolled through the universe dropping stones to remember where they came from. When every path had crossed and every line had layered and curved, Earth, in the infinite freedom of time and space, turned inward.
She imagined a metaphor: a forest where trails of white breadcrumbs were crossed and piled like snow; where people had taken to following footprints. Some - prone to dreaming of bodies - agreed footprints are connected at the hip. Others decided feet may be connected by hips but footprints are connected by shapes. Some followed the lines of a common boot. Others, the distance between feet. One walked a path that looked remarkably like a raven another, a path that looked like a toucan.
